The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers to Premiere July 7 on HULU

Paramount Digital Entertainment announced today the groundbreaking original series from visionary director Jon M. Chu (STEP UP 2: THE STREETS, STEP UP 3-D), The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (THE LXD), will premiere Wednesday, July 7 on Hulu, an online video service that offers hit TV shows, movies and clips at Hulu.com and other online destination sites. The first two episodes of THE LXD launch July 7th, with new episodes debuting every Wednesday throughout the summer.

“THE LXD celebrates the vibrant dance culture I’ve been immersed in for many years and showcases these amazing athletes against a backdrop of an epic adventure tale,” said Chu.  ”I hope THE LXD inspires a new generation of dancers to push the limits of their abilities and Hulu is the perfect medium to reach this new audience.”

THE LXD, created by Jon M. Chu and produced by Chu and Hieu Ho in partnership with Agility Studios, chronicles the journey of seemingly ordinary people who discover they have extraordinary powers and must choose their place in an epic conflict between good and evil.  The story of THE LXD unfolds in three initial volumes starting with THE LXD: The Uprising Begins.  Paramount Digital Entertainment is the distributor of the series.

The scripted adventure series is told largely through dance and features some of the world’s best dancers: there’s high school outcast Trevor Drift (Bboy Luis “Luigi” Rosado); fallen soldier Sp3cimen (Popper Chadd “Madd Chadd” Smith); and the unassuming hero Elliot Hoo (“Glee’s” Harry Shum Jr.).  All are called to join The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers and to fulfill their destiny through their superpowers of dance.

The ten chapters in The Uprising Begins each employ different cinematic styles and multiple genres of storytelling.  The series showcases the unbelievable flips, spins and twists that have already made THE LXD a pop culture phenomenon and one of the most highly-anticipated web series ever launched.

“THE LXD has a unique worldwide following that has been cultivated through the web, on TV and live performance,” stated Tom Lesinski, President of Paramount Digital Entertainment.  ”We are proud to work with Jon Chu, the visionary behind THE LXD who has created a truly original story built around extraordinary dance performances.”

THE LXD cast features a long list of talented dancers including Luis “Luigi” Rosado as Trevor Drift, Christopher Scott as Copeland, Harry Shum, Jr. as Elliot Hoo, Christopher “Lil-C” Toler as Z, Daniel “Cloud” Campos as Illister, Aja George as Stereo, Terence Dickson as Minijack, Straphanio “Shonnie” Soloman as Phono, Chadd “Madd Chadd” Smith as Sp3cimen, Jeremy Marinas as Justin Starr, Travis Wong as Jimmy Angel, and Roger Aaron Brown as the Narrator.  THE LXD cast recently performed as the opening act during the sold out “Glee” Live Tour, at the 82nd Academy Awards® and the 2010 TED Conference.

“THE LXD is an extraordinary project and it was a privilege to help translate Jon’s unique vision into reality.  We couldn’t be more pleased to have Hulu be our online distribution platform,” said Agility Studios CEO Scott Ehrlich.  ”I’m confident that the combination of unique storytelling, a talented cast comprised of some of the top dancers in the world, and one of the most successful online entertainment destinations, will not disappoint.  THE LXD is simply put, a journey you will not forget.”
