Where The Closer left off, continues with the compelling story of one of television’s favorite squad of detectives as they head into bold new territory under the leadership of a new boss. Available in stores June 11, 2013, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s release of : The Complete First Season will feature all 10 episodes from the new drama’s freshman year, plus behind-the-scenes extras including four featurettes, deleted scenes and a gag reel. The detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division are still reeling from the departure of Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Emmy® Award winner Kyra Sedgwick). Now under the leadership of Captain Sharon Raydor, played by two-time Oscar® nominee Mary McDonnell in the Emmy®-nominated role she originated in The Closer, the squad must adjust to their new department head while continuing to close the department’s highest profile cases. Unlike their previous chief, Raydor is determined to lead the department with a more team-oriented approach, sharing the credit with the people with whom she works. Raydor’s hardest job, however, will be gaining the full trust and confidence of her detectives, who aren’t quick to forget her long history of internal investigations targeting them and their previous boss. The new arrangement is especially troublesome for Lieutenant Provenza (G.W. Bailey – The Closer, M*A*S*H), who has a difficult time taking orders from someone he doesn’t think knows as much as he does.
In addition to McDonnell and Bailey, Major Crimes features an ensemble cast comprised of several familiar faces from its popular predecessor, The Closer, including Tony Denison (Prison Break) as Lieutenant Andy Flynn, Michael Paul Chan (Arrested Development) as Lieutenant Mike Tao, Raymond Cruz (Training Day) as Detective Julio Sanchez and Phillip P. Keene (Home) as Buzz Watson, along with Kearran Giovanni (One Life to Live) as Detective Amy Sykes, an ambitious undercover police detective and military veteran who served in Afghanistan, and Graham Patrick Martin (Two and a Half Men) as Rusty Beck, a homeless juvenile whose character was introduced in the final episode of The Closer.
Other alums from The Closer who guest star in the new series are Robert Gossett (Arlington Road) as Assistant Chief Taylor, Jon Tenney (You Can Count on Me) as Special Agent Fritz Howard and Jonathan Del Arco (Nip/Tuck) as Dr. Morales.
“As the dramatic spin-off to The Closer, Major Crimes stands on its own and carves out its own style, rhythm and tone, led by the stellar performance of Mary McDonnell as Captain Sharon Raydor,” said Rosemary Markson, WBHE Senior Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. She added, “We are delighted to release the first installment of Major Crimes on.”
Major Crimes is produced by The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Bros. Television. The Closer’s James Duff, Greer Shephard, Michael M. Robin and Rick Wallace serve as executive producers.
