The series follows a group of US Marshals based in South Texas who specialize in apprehending criminals on the run. Our primary protagonist is Annie Frost (Kelli Giddish – PAST LIFE, DAMAGES), a tough, smart, driven woman with very personal reasons for taking this career path. Her main partner is the frequently formerly married Jimmy Godfrey (Cole Hauser – K-VILLE, THE BREAK-UP, PITCH BLACK) with the spazzy but formidable Marco Martinez (Amaury Nolasco – PRISON BREAK, ARMORED, STREET KINGS) and the as-yet-defined Daisy Ogbaa (Rose Rollins – THE L WORD, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III) making up the rest of the unit. We’re introduced to the team and the basics of the job through rookie Luke Watson (Jesse Metcalfe – DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT) who’s on his first case.

Giddish delivers everything Annie’s supposed to be – I believe she deserves the respect she commands from those around her, I believe her softer side when talking to victims, and most importantly I believe she can beat up a guy twice her size (the first fight scene is a keeper). She and Hauser work very well off each other, Nolasco is instantly likable, and Metcalfe nailed the eagerness and determination of a newbie. The only person getting short changed so far is Rollins. While I can tell Daisy is capable and respected, there was very little that let me know who she is or what type of personality she has.

The pilot has the team chasing down Mason Boyle (played outstandingly by Travis Fimmel – THE EXPERIMENT, THE BEAST, TARZAN), a nasty piece of work who robs homes and kills the people who live there. There were some predictable elements to the story but they’re forgivable since it’s an introductory outing. Hopefully they won’t make that a habit.

Overall, CHASE is an enjoyable romp with potential. The cast is solid, the premise makes it easy to jump on board, and it’s different enough from the other procedurals to attract an audience.
